6 Benefits of Pepper for Health that are a shame to miss

The benefits of pepper are not limited to making dishes delicious, but are also good for body health. Not only that, this spice, which is commonly used in cooking, also has various benefits thanks to its high antioxidant content.

This pepper or plant with the Latin name Piper nigrum grows in many Asian countries. Pepper is divided into 2 types, namely black pepper and white pepper. Both come from the same plant and go through a drying process. The difference is, black pepper comes from dried raw fruit. Meanwhile, white pepper comes from fruit that is ripe and dried, then peeled from the skin.
Pepper contains various nutritional contents. These various ingredients support the benefits of pepper for maintaining body health while reducing the risk of developing various diseases.
Various Benefits of Pepper for Health
The benefits of pepper are obtained from its main natural compound, namely piperine, which has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from that, pepper also contains other nutrients in the form of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin E.
Thanks to its abundant nutrition, pepper is often used to treat certain health conditions. The following are various health benefits of pepper:
1. Relieves nasal congestion
The benefits of pepper can relieve nasal congestion because it contains a natural decongestant. This decongestant works by thinning the buildup of mucus in the respiratory tract, so you can breathe freely again.
You can mix pepper in a warm soup dish, such as chicken soup, to get this benefit.
2. Prevent cell damage
The high antioxidant content in pepper plays an important role in fighting free radicals which can cause cell damage. Exposure to free radicals is one of the factors that increases the risk of premature aging, heart disease and cancer.

3. Inhibits bacterial growth
One of the benefits of pepper is that it is a natural antibacterial. Several studies show that the antibacterial properties of pepper appear to be able to inhibit the growth of various types of bacteria that cause infections (pathogens), such as E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus.
Apart from being able to prevent various diseases and infections caused by bacteria, the benefits of pepper can also be used as a natural food preservative.
4. Prevent and treat digestive disorders
Several studies show that the piperine content in pepper can increase nutrient absorption in the body, support the production of digestive enzymes, maintain a healthy digestive tract, and prevent and help treat diarrhea.
Pepper is also useful as a prebiotic and contains substances that can relax the muscles in the walls of the digestive tract, so it is good for alleviating stomach pain and flatulence.
Apart from that, the benefits of pepper can also prevent stomach disorders. This is because pepper has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects which are effective in inhibiting the growth of H. pylori, the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers.

5. Relieves pain
As previously explained, pepper has compounds that are anti-inflammatory. Research also shows that pepper has benefits as a natural pain reliever.
Thanks to its substance content, pepper is good for consumption to help relieve pain and overcome inflammation, for example arthritis (osteoarthritis), headaches and toothache.
6. Control blood sugar levels
The piperine in pepper is thought to be able to prevent type 2 diabetes. This is supported by research showing that piperine can reduce blood glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity.
